Old Hollywood Glamour

Old Hollywood Glamour Makeup and Style is being embraced by all of today's Celebrities. Simple eye makeup with just neutrals and a little definition in the crease is a must. Black Liquid Liner is used along the top lashes to enhance the fullness of lashes. Lots of mascara is needed, apply at least 2 coats. If you need more lashes then opt for false lashes that are thick and full. Apply a little bronzer along the cheekbones to accentuate them. Last but not least add a Red Lipstick like ours in the color "Hussy". This bright red will brighten up your face and make you stand out.

"Melt Away" Makeup No More!

It's summer time which means hot and humid weather here in the south. Do you tend to have trouble with your makeup NOT staying on throughout the day. From melting to just plain disappearing, makeup doesn't always stay how we would like it to. Here are some great tips to make sure your makeup stays on all day long.

  1. Moisturize. Whether you have oily, dry, or normal skin it is important to always moisturize. At Merle Norman we can help you choose the right moisturizer for you. Moisturizer needs to be applied morning and night to make sure that your skin is receiving the moisture it needs to function properly.
  2. "Prime Time" one of my favorite new products we have is our Foundation Primer Plus SPF 15. It gives your skin a silky feel so that your powder/foundation glides on and doesn't cake up. This product also provides SPF 15, is a pore minimizer, and helps your makeup to stay on all day. Apply primer directly after moisturizer.
  3. After applying your foundation/powder make sure to top off your makeup with our Expert Touch Finishing Spray.  Its unique dispersion system creates an ultrafine mist that forms an invisible microscopic mesh-like barrier against environmental factors that can meltdown or dry out makeup while still letting skin breathe. A synergistic balance of effective soothers and flexible sealers leaves skin with a comfortable finish that never feels sticky or tight. It’s fast-drying, so there’s no waiting time. Oil-free.

How To Make Lipstick Last

Ladies, does your lipstick wear off only after a couple of hours? Follow these simple tricks to make it stay all day.

•  Be strong. Go for a bright or dark shade; they tend to last longer than soft ones because they have more pigment.
•  Prep your lips. Lipstick holds up best on a smooth surface, so gently buff your lips with Merle Norman's Lip Exfoliator.Say bye to dry, flaky lips with this easy-to-apply micro-dermabrasion treatment. It immediately removes dead, rough skin with a few quick swipes. Pat on our Lip Conditioner. Used daily, this lip conditioner helps protect against environmental factors with SPF 15 and antioxidant-rich Pomegranate Extract keeps lips feeling great. Plus, it’s packed with humectants and emollients to smooth, soothe and seal in moisture.  Give it a few minutes to sink in before applying any color.
•  Pencil it in. Lip pencil adds a layer of pigment and helps your color last. Choose one that matches your lipstick—unless it's very dark, in which case go one shade lighter. Lightly trace the pencil along the inside edge of your lips, then fill in your mouth and blot. The trick to lipliner is short thing strokes. This gives a more natural look so that your lips still look full and plump without looking too drawn on.
•  Swipe it on. Don't use a brush—you'll get richer color if you apply your lipstick straight from the tube. Blot the first coat with a tissue, then add another layer.
•  Finish with powder. Women think powdering their lips will dry them out, but you don't need much. Close your mouth, smile, and then dust a little face powder on your lips with a fluffy brush. Don't reapply lipstick, or it could get cakey.

Simple. Summer. Makeup

Summertime is here. To me that means minimal makeup. I like to keep a natural look by applying as little makeup as possible. Do you want to learn how to do so? Then keep reading!

To achieve Megan's natural look apply Total Finish to create a dewy look. For cheekcolor apply Spice Sachet in Cream Blush. For eyes apply concealer underneath to brighten up for a fresh look. Apply Lashlift Water Proof Mascara in Deep Ebony. For lips apply the new Summer Lip Pencil Plus in A Flare to Remember.

These last 3 looks are keeping it simple by only applying Mascara for the eyes and a light/nude lipcolor.

Makeup Questions and Answers

We have been asked a few makeup questions through our Blog and Facebook. So here they are!

  1. Question: "Is wearing makeup to the beach wrong?"
Answer: What a great question, and the answer is NO. When your out on the beach there are a few must have products that you can wear to stay protected from the sun and also look fabulous. The first product is Sheer Defense Tinted Moisturizer. This lightweight sheer foundation provides a glow to your skin while protecting your skin with SPF 15. Apply a quarter sized amount of this onto your face before going out in the sun and viola, you will be ready to go. If you want a little mascara be sure to go with a waterproof that won't run or smear. Our Lashlift Water-Proof mascara provides lash lengenthing, fullness, and is waterproof so your lashes can look long and beautiful even in the water. You can also never go wrong with a little Lip Polish in the color Razzle Dazzle which has a gold tint to reflect out in the sun.
